GUIDELINES

REGIONAL FPPOA LINE OFFICER AWARD

NATURE OF AWARD: A wall plaque

OBJECTIVES:

To commemorate and perpetuate the ideals of outstanding performance in the field of federal probation and pretrial services.

To recognize and honor Federal Probation and Pretrial Services Officers who, through their own initiative, make significant contributions and provide outstanding services to their field of endeavor.

To recognize and encourage services which enhance the effectiveness of the Federal Probation System.

To acquaint the public with work being accomplished in the Federal Probation System.

ELIGIBILITY:

Any Probation Officer, Pretrial Services Officer, Probation Officer Assistant, Pretrial Services Officer Assistant, including senior officers but is are not a chief, deputy chief or supervisor, but who is an active member of FPPOA and has demonstrated the worthwhile virtues of dedication, compassion, perseverance, and integrity. The recipient should have exceeded the customary administrative requirements of his work by giving unselfishly of his time, talent, resources, expertise and energy to causes which enrich the lives of others. The recipient should inspire others by his or her communicating enthusiasm, leadership and professional standards. The recipient's responses in time of need has earned him or her the respect and praise of fellow workers and of the community at large.

NOMINATIONS:

Nominations may be made by anyone within the region having knowledge of the achievement on which the nomination is based. Nominations shall be in writing and should be sent to the Regional Awards Committee Chairperson between October 1st and

December 30th of each year, and the awards shall be presented no later than June 1st of the subsequent year. The nominations shall be typed in letter or memorandum form and shall not exceed six pages in length. The nominations shall include a description of the nominee's achievement or contribution, pointing up its significance and value. They shall contain the following topographical headings:

(1) General Qualifications. This section should reflect academic and professional background information and indicate the dates of Federal Probation and/or Pretrial Services service.

(2) Accomplishments. This section shall include the specific bases for the nomination.

(3) Supporting Documents. There should be a list of any attached documents or exhibits. The number of such attachments should be limited to six and should not include voluminous material.

4) Remarks. A summation of the material submitted and reasons for the nomination.

SELECTION:

A Regional Awards Committee of no less than three-- nor more than six FPPOA members shall be appointed by the Regional President. The Awards Committee will screen nominations received on or before December 30th of each year and will make the selection. The Awards Committee will also nominate the recipient to the national chairman of the Doyle Award Committee and request that the person be considered for that award the following year, except that no member of the FPPOA Board shall be eligible until at least one year from the expiration of his/her term of office. Those nominees who are eligible but not selected as the over-all winner may receive a certificate of recognition and appreciation issued by the regional officers.

PRESENTATION:

A suitable ceremony for presentation of the regional line officer award will be arranged by the

Regional President and Regional Awards Committee. The Regional President will notify:

The Recipient; The Chief Judge of Recipient's District; The Recipient's Chief Probation or Pretrial Services Officer;  Chief, Division of Probation and Pretrial Services, Administrative Office; FPPOA National President; FPPOA Newsletter Editor; and the National Doyle Award Chairperson. The National Doyle Award Chairperson will purchase the regional plaque with association funds and mail to the Regional President.

PUBLICITY:

The Editor of FPPOA Newsletter will be requested to publicize the establishment of the award, encourage nominations, and publicize winners. The Regional President (or designee) will send news releases to the hometown newspapers of the winner and a copy of the news release will be furnished the national secretary.
