Awards: Regional Line Officer - Mid-Atlantic

Mark Anthony Sneberger Regional Line Officer Award 

Mark Anthony Sneberger was appointed a United States Probation Officer for the Northern District of West Virginia on September 10, 1990 and was assigned to the Elkins, West Virginia office. In September of 1995, Mark became certified as an Assistant Firearms In­structor. Eleven months later, after successfully completing Firearms Instructor School at the University of Alabama's Law Enforcement Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he became the district's Firearms instructor. Mark was subsequently promoted to a Senior United States Probation Officer, District Safety Officer/Firearms Instructor. In September 2001, Mark received certification as a Firearms instructor for the newly issued Glock semi-automatic weapons. He also became a certified Glock armorer,

Mark was a graduate of the East Coast Officer Survival Academy and was instrumental in establishing the Appalachian Regional Officer Safety Academy (AROSA). AROSA is a multi-district training acad­emy held annually. The academy provides officers with a variety of techniques and information that maximizes an officer's chances of performing their job safely.

Mark was an excellent teacher and had the great ability to easily instruct fellow officers in the areas of marksmanship and safety. Mark was best known for his emphasis on mental preparedness and the signifi­cance of having a positive attitude. Mark passed away on June 10, 2006, as a result of injuries he sustained from an accidental fall. Mark was a dedicated hus­band, father, son, brother and friend. He was a loyal federal law enforcement officer and proud American.

The award was named in Mark's honor in 2008.
